Adding Keywords Manually

Add a single keyword by hand, optionally including search volume, difficulty, CPC, and search intent.

Manual entry is the most direct way to add a keyword to RankTurn. Use it when you already know the term you want to target — for example, a keyword you found in another SEO tool, a brand term, or a phrase you want to write content for right away. You only need the keyword text; everything else is optional.

Opening the Add Keyword Dialog

  1. Go to the Keywords page.
  2. Click the Add Keyword button (the button with the + icon).
  3. The Add Keyword dialog opens with one required field and several optional ones.

When you're done, click Add Keyword to save, or Cancel to discard. A confirmation appears once the keyword is added, and the dialog closes.

Fields

FieldRequiredNotes
KeywordYesThe search term. 1–100 characters.
Search VolumeNoEstimated monthly searches. A whole number, 0 or greater.
DifficultyNoHow hard the keyword is to rank for, from 0 (easy) to 100 (hard). A whole number.
CPCNoCost per click, shown in your account's currency (the symbol appears next to the field). 0 or greater.
Search IntentNoOne of Commercial, Informational, Navigational, or Transactional.

A few details worth knowing:

  • Keyword is the only field you must fill in. If you leave the optional fields blank, the keyword is still saved — RankTurn simply records no value for those metrics.
  • Search Volume and Difficulty accept whole numbers only. Difficulty is capped at 100.
  • CPC allows decimals when your currency is USD (step of 0.01) and whole numbers when your currency is JPY (step of 1).
  • Search Intent is chosen from a dropdown. There is no "unknown" option — leave it unset if you're not sure.

Keywords added this way are labeled Manual, so you can tell them apart from AI suggestions or imported keywords later.

Duplicate Prevention (case-insensitive)

RankTurn won't add the same keyword twice to your account. Before saving, it compares your new keyword against the ones you already have, ignoring upper/lower case, so these are all treated as the same keyword:

  • SEO Tools
  • seo tools
  • SEO tools (extra spaces are collapsed and trimmed)

Full-width and half-width characters are also treated as the same, so for Japanese input SEO and SEO count as identical. If a matching keyword already exists, you'll see a message that the keyword is already there, and nothing is added. Edit the existing keyword instead, or add a different term.

CPC & Currency

You enter CPC in your account's currency — the dialog shows the matching symbol ($ for USD, ¥ for JPY) and lets you type decimals for USD or whole numbers for JPY. The number you type is the number you'll see on the Keywords page.

CPC is for reference only — it doesn't affect your billing or article generation. Your account's currency follows your interface language (Japanese shows JPY, otherwise USD), so if you switch languages, existing CPC values are shown in the new currency.

Tips

  • Skip the metrics if you don't have them. Search volume, difficulty, and CPC are optional. You can always add or refine them later, or let an AI Keyword Suggestion or Search Console import fill in real metrics.
  • Set intent when you know it. Tagging a keyword's intent helps you organize your content plan and steer the AI toward the right kind of article.
  • Watch the duplicate check. If your keyword won't save, an existing entry probably matches it once case and spacing are ignored — search the table for it.
  • Need lots of keywords fast? Manual entry adds one keyword at a time. To generate many at once, use AI Keyword Suggestions. To learn what each metric means, see Keyword Metrics, Intent & Quotas.
