Keywords

Build and manage your SEO keyword strategy — add keywords manually, generate AI suggestions, or import from Google Search Console.

Keywords are the foundation of your content strategy in RankTurn. Every article starts with a keyword — it tells the AI what topic to write about and shapes how the content is optimized for search. Get your keyword list right and everything downstream (titles, articles, content plans, and series) draws from a strategy you control.

The Keywords page shows every keyword you're tracking in one table you can search, sort, and filter.

The Keywords Table

Each row is a keyword with the metrics RankTurn has gathered for it. You'll see a few extra columns once you connect Google Search Console.

ColumnDescription
KeywordThe search term itself. Hover over it to reveal a pencil button for quick editing.
VolumeEstimated monthly search volume. A small trend line next to the number shows the last 12 months of search interest — hover it for a month-by-month breakdown.
DifficultyHow hard it is to rank for the term (0–100).
CPCCost per click, shown in your currency.
Search IntentThe user's goal behind the search: Commercial, Informational, Navigational, or Transactional.
SourceHow the keyword entered your list (see below).
CreatedWhen the keyword was added.

Volume, Difficulty, and CPC are estimates based on Google search and ads data, so the actual numbers may vary.

Search Console columns (when connected)

When you connect Google Search Console, four extra columns appear, drawn from your site's real search performance:

ColumnDescription
PositionYour current average Google ranking for the keyword.
ChangeHow your position moved versus the previous period (up arrow = improved, down arrow = dropped).
ClicksClicks the keyword earned in Search.
ImpressionsTimes your site appeared in Search results for the keyword.

See Google Search Console to connect your property.

Sorting, searching & paging

You can sort by any column header, search by keyword text, and filter by intent or source. The table shows 100 keywords per page. For the full set of tools — search, the intent and source filters, sorting, and selecting keywords to act on in bulk — see Searching, Filtering, Editing & Bulk Actions.

Three Ways to Add Keywords

You'll find the action buttons in the top-right of the page (visible to members with keyword edit permission).

1. Manual entry

Click Add Keyword to type in a keyword yourself. You can optionally supply your own volume, difficulty, CPC, and search intent if you have them from external tools — otherwise RankTurn fills in estimates. Best when you already know exactly which terms you want to target. See Adding Keywords Manually.

2. AI suggestions

Click Suggest Keywords to have the AI generate keyword ideas from your business profile. You can steer the relevance (from closely related "direct" keywords through to broader "indirect" topics) and add a guiding prompt.

AI suggestions draw from a monthly quota that depends on your plan:

PlanAI keyword suggestions / month

Onboarding preview10 (one batch)

The Free (unpaid) state has no access to AI keyword suggestions. During the onboarding preview, a new account can pull a single batch of up to 10 to see the feature in action. See AI Keyword Suggestions and Usage Quotas.

3. Google Search Console import

If you've connected Google Search Console, RankTurn can discover keywords from your actual search traffic — the queries real users already type to find your site. This option appears in the actions (...) menu next to Add Keyword and Suggest Keywords only when Search Console is connected. See Importing Keywords from Search Console.

Keywords also arrive automatically from two other sources you don't add by hand:

  • Series — topics generated for a recurring Series are saved as keywords tagged "Series".
  • Competitor analysis — keyword gaps and opportunities you add from Competitor Analysis land in this same list.

The Source badge on each row tells you where a keyword came from: AI Suggested, Manual, Imported, GSC, or Series. Keywords added from Competitor Analysis appear in the list too, though they don't yet show their own badge or a dedicated option in the source filter.

Keyword Actions

  • Edit — Hover a keyword and click the pencil to change its text. Metrics are automatically refreshed afterward.
  • Set Intent (bulk) — Select one or more keywords (checkboxes) and assign a search intent to all of them at once from the floating action bar.
  • Delete (bulk) — Select keywords and delete them in one action.

Once you have keywords, you generate article titles for them from the Articles workflow — see Title Generation. There's no title-generation control on the Keywords page itself.

Add, edit, and delete actions require keyword edit permission. Viewers can browse the table but can't change it — see Team Roles & Members.
