Trend Watch

Monitor keywords for breaking news and turn AI-scored, business-relevant stories into timely articles.

Trend Watch keeps an eye on the topics that matter to your business. You give it a set of keywords; on a schedule it searches for related news, uses AI to score how relevant each story is to your business, and surfaces timely article suggestions you can approve with one click — or have approved and published for you automatically.

Plan: Trend Watch is available on the Pro plan. Creating, editing, resuming, checking, and approving alerts all require an active Pro subscription. If you downgrade, you can still pause and delete your existing watches.

How Trend Watch Works

Watch keywords → Scheduled check → AI relevance score → Alert → Approve → Article → (optional) Publish
  1. Create a watch with keywords, a check frequency, and a relevance threshold
  2. RankTurn searches for recent news related to each keyword and reads the results
  3. AI scores relevance to your business; stories at or above your threshold become actionable alerts, while lower-scoring stories are kept as excluded news
  4. Review and approve an alert (or let Auto Approve do it) to generate a timely article that references the news
  5. Publish automatically (if Auto Publish is on) or after your own review

Creating a Watch

Open Articles > Trend Watch > Create Watch and configure:

SettingDescription
Watch NameInternal name, e.g. "AI Industry News"
Watch KeywordsTopics to monitor — type a keyword and press Enter to add each one. At least 1 keyword is required, up to 20
Check FrequencyOnce daily, Twice daily, Weekly, Biweekly, or Monthly
Relevance ThresholdA 0–100 slider (default 80); only news scoring at or above this value becomes an actionable alert
Auto ApproveAutomatically approve alerts above the threshold and start article generation
Auto PublishPublish generated articles automatically (requires Auto Approve)
Publishing PlatformsWhich connected platforms approved articles are sent to (shown when Auto Publish is on)

Auto Approve and Auto Publish

These two switches control how hands-off the watch is:

  • Manual (both off) — Every relevant story lands as a pending alert for you to review. Nothing is generated until you approve it. This is the default.
  • Auto Approve on — Stories at or above the threshold are approved automatically and article generation starts on the next check, no clicks required. You still review the finished drafts before they go live.
  • Auto Publish on — Generated articles are published automatically to the platforms you select. Auto Publish can only be enabled when Auto Approve is on; turning Auto Approve off also clears Auto Publish and the selected platforms.

Each approved alert consumes one article from your monthly quota, the same as any other generation. With Auto Approve on, a busy news cycle can generate several articles in one check — keep an eye on your usage.

Check times

Checks run on a fixed schedule (times below are in UTC). A check happens at the next scheduled time rather than the instant you set it up:

FrequencyWhen it runs
Twice daily08:00 and 20:00 UTC
Once daily20:00 UTC
Weekly20:00 UTC on the selected day of the week
Biweekly20:00 UTC on the selected day, roughly every two weeks
Monthly20:00 UTC on the selected date (months shorter than that date run on their last day)

When you first create a watch, a first check runs right away so you don't have to wait for the schedule.

Choosing a relevance threshold

The threshold filters out noise. Higher is stricter:

RangeBehavior
90–100Only highly relevant news (strict)
70–85Moderately relevant news included (recommended)
50–65Broad catch — may include noise

Stories that score below your threshold aren't discarded; they're listed under Excluded News for reference, so you can see what was filtered out and adjust the threshold if it's too strict or too loose.

How Checks Work

On each scheduled run (and on Check Now), RankTurn:

  1. Searches recent news for every watch keyword, limited to stories from roughly the last week.
  2. Removes duplicates and skips any story it has already alerted you about for this watch — you won't see the same article twice.
  3. Scores each new story with AI against your business profile (main product, industry, audience, content pillars, pain points, and goals). For each story, the AI gives a relevance score, a short reason, a suggested article title, and a suggested keyword.
  4. Creates alerts: stories at or above your threshold appear as Pending (or are approved automatically if Auto Approve is on); the rest are kept as excluded news.
  5. Notifies you in the app and by email when new actionable alerts are found, following your notification settings.

Because checks compare results against your business profile, keeping your Business Profile accurate and complete makes the relevance scoring much sharper.

Reviewing Alerts

Open a watch to see its Alerts tab, which lists what each check found:

  • Pending Alerts — Each relevant story shows its source headline, the AI's relevance score and reason, and a suggested title and keyword. Before approving, you can edit the Suggested Title so the generated article uses exactly the angle you want. The Suggested Keyword is shown for reference and is used as the article's target keyword as-is.
  • Approve generates an article that incorporates the news context; Reject dismisses the alert.
  • Bulk actions — Select multiple alerts and use Bulk Approve or Bulk Reject to act on them at once. Bulk approval processes alerts one by one and stops if you reach your article quota.
  • Processed Alerts — Alerts you've already approved or rejected, or that have generated an article, shown with their current status. When an article has been generated, a View Article link takes you straight to it.
  • Excluded News — Stories that scored below your threshold, kept for reference.

Check Now lives in the watch header, not in the Alerts tab, and is shown only while the watch is active. Use it to trigger an immediate check instead of waiting for the schedule.

Article Generation from Alerts

Approving an alert creates a draft article and starts writing it, so the alert briefly shows a Generating status. The article is written using your saved settings — your active writing style, business context, image and decoration preferences, internal-link and reference settings — with the news story added as extra context so the piece stays current and on-brand.

Approving is safe to do even if you double-click or two people approve the same alert at once: you'll never get duplicate articles or be charged twice against your quota. If generation can't start (for example, you're out of article quota or your business profile is missing), the alert goes back to Pending and nothing is counted against your usage, so you can try again.

Once generation finishes, the article behaves like any other: review and edit it in The Article Editor, and publish it manually — or, if Auto Publish was on for the watch, it's sent to your selected platforms automatically. See Content Generation for how full articles are produced and Publishing & Scheduling for delivery options.

Managing a Watch

  • Pause / Resume — Pause stops scheduled checks while keeping the watch and its alerts intact; resume restarts checks (resuming requires the Pro plan). Pausing is always available, even after a downgrade.
  • Delete — Removes the watch and all of its alerts. Articles that were already generated from the watch remain in your library but are unlinked from it. Deletion is always available, even after a downgrade.
