Usage Quotas

Understand RankTurn's usage quotas — what counts, the limits on each plan, when they reset, and what happens when you reach a limit.

Your plan sets how much AI work RankTurn will do for your site in a given period. These caps are called quotas. Some are counted across a whole billing period (like articles), and others are limits applied to each individual article (like how many images one article can have). Below you'll find every quota, the limits on each plan, when they reset, and what happens when you reach a limit.

Quotas apply per site — each site has its own subscription and its own counters. If you run two sites on Pro, each gets its own full Pro allowance. For how plans map to prices, see Plan Details.

Quota Types

RankTurn tracks six kinds of usage. Four are period quotas (a running total that resets each cycle): articles, keyword suggestions, title generations, and custom style tokens. The other two are per-article caps (a limit applied each time a single article is generated): images and diagrams per article.

QuotaTypeWhat it counts
ArticlesPeriodThe number of full articles generated in the current billing period. This is the main quota and the one most users watch.
Keyword suggestionsPeriod (calendar month)The number of AI-suggested keywords generated in the current calendar month.
Title generationsPeriodThe number of AI title suggestions used in the current billing period.
Images per articlePer-articleThe maximum AI images a single article may generate.
Diagrams per articlePer-articleThe maximum AI diagrams (flowcharts, comparison tables, and similar) a single article may generate.
Custom style tokensPeriodTokens spent generating custom styles and previews in the current billing period.

A few clarifications:

  • Articles count only when a generation succeeds. If a generation fails, the count is given back, so a retry never costs you twice.
  • Title generations counts AI title suggestions you keep, not how many times you press the button.
  • Images and diagrams are per-article caps, not monthly totals. There is no separate monthly image counter — the per-article cap, multiplied by your monthly article allowance, is the most media you can generate.
  • Custom style tokens are spent when you generate custom styles or previews, not when you save them. Generating a batch of style candidates costs one token per candidate; a style preview costs 1 token (or 2 for a framed preview). The counter resets every billing period, just like articles — deleting a saved style does not refund a token.

Notes:

  • Free is the unpaid state (after a trial ends without converting, or a subscription lapses). All generation quotas are zero, so content generation is paused until you subscribe. Your existing data is never removed. See Plan Details.
  • Text generates text-only articles, so its image, diagram, and custom-style quotas are all zero.
  • Standard and Pro add AI media. Standard allows 3 images and 2 diagrams per article; Pro raises this to 5 images and 3 diagrams.
  • During the 3-day trial, reduced limits apply (1 article, 30 keyword suggestions, and 30 title generations) regardless of the plan you are trialing. See 3-Day Trial.

Billing-Period Reset

Quotas reset automatically — you do not need to do anything.

  • Articles and title generations reset on your billing cycle. The period runs from your subscription's renewal date to the next renewal date (roughly 30 days), not the calendar month. When a new billing period begins, both counters return to zero. If a site has no active subscription, the period falls back to the calendar month.
  • Keyword suggestions reset on the calendar month (the 1st of each month), independent of your billing date.
  • Custom style tokens reset on your billing cycle, the same as articles (and fall back to the calendar month when there is no active subscription). The counter tracks tokens spent generating styles and previews during the period, so it returns to zero when a new period begins.

Unused quota does not roll over. If you generate 10 of 15 articles in a period, the next period still starts at 15, not 20.

Viewing Usage

You can see all of your current usage in one place under Settings -> Usage.

The Usage card shows your current plan badge and the billing period it covers (a start and end date), followed by a progress bar for each tracked quota:

  1. Articles — articles generated vs. your total article allowance for the period. If you have purchased Add-On Packs, the extra articles are added to this total and a note shows how many additional articles are included.
  2. Keywords — keyword suggestions generated vs. your monthly keyword allowance.
  3. Titles — title generations used vs. your title allowance for the period.
  4. Custom Image Styles — custom style tokens used this period vs. your per-period token allowance.

Each bar changes color as you approach the limit: it turns orange at around 80% used and red once the quota is reached. A quota that does not apply to your plan (for example, custom style tokens on the Text plan) is shown dimmed with a dash instead of a bar.

Per-article caps (images and diagrams per article) are not shown as progress bars here, because they reset with every article rather than accumulating. You will see those limits applied while generating an article — see Content Generation and Images, Diagrams, Screenshots & Videos.

What Happens at the Limit

RankTurn checks your remaining quota before it starts an AI task, so you are never billed AI cost for work it will not finish.

  • Approaching the limit: when you have used about 80% of a quota, its progress bar turns orange. For articles, the Usage card also shows a warning telling you how many articles remain.
  • At the article limit: once your article quota is used up, new article generation pauses and the Usage card shows a "used up" alert. You can lift it in two ways — upgrade to a higher plan (see Managing Your Subscription) for a permanently larger allowance, or buy an Add-On Pack for an immediate, one-time boost without changing your plan (see Add-On Packs). Add-on articles are added on top of your plan allowance and shown in the same Usage bar.
  • At the keyword or title limit: further AI keyword suggestions or title generations are paused for the rest of the period. These reset automatically when the next period begins (calendar month for keywords, billing cycle for titles).
  • At the custom style token limit: generating new custom styles and previews pauses for the rest of the billing period. The counter resets automatically when the next period begins; to lift it sooner, upgrade to a plan with a larger token allowance. Deleting saved styles does not free tokens.
  • Per-article caps: an individual article will never generate more images or diagrams than your plan's per-article cap, even if you request more. Media you already generated on a higher plan stays attached to existing articles — the cap only limits new generation.

Because quotas apply everywhere content is created — when you generate manually, on a schedule, in bulk, or through a content plan, and when you retry — reaching a limit pauses all of those for that quota until it resets or you add capacity. For how quotas fit with the rest of billing, see Plans & Billing.
