The Onboarding Wizard

A guided, multi-step setup that prepares RankTurn for your site — from website analysis to your first article.

When you first open a new project, RankTurn walks you through a guided, multi-step setup wizard. Each step captures one piece of information RankTurn needs to generate content that fits your business. You don't have to finish it all in one sitting: your progress is saved after every step, so you can close the tab and pick up exactly where you left off.

You'll find the wizard at the /onboarding address for your project. If you reload mid-flow, it resumes on the screen you were last looking at — not back at the beginning.

What Each Step Covers

The wizard has twelve steps. The plan-selection step only appears for projects without a paid plan, so paid projects effectively see one fewer step.

5CompetitorsAdd competitor websites (AI can suggest some).
6StrategyContent pillars, target pain points, content goal, strategy notes.
7Writing styleDefine or generate the voice your articles are written in.
8Image stylePick the visual style for generated images.
9Keyword generationRankTurn generates keywords and article titles.
10Choose a planFree projects only — start a trial or subscribe.

A progress stepper across the top shows where you are. Most steps have Back and Next buttons; a few offer Skip.

Website URL & AI Analysis

The first step asks for two things:

  1. Website URL — your site's address (for example, https://example.com). This field is required.
  2. Content language — choose Japanese or English. This sets the language RankTurn writes your content in, and it shapes the keyword and style suggestions throughout the rest of the wizard.

When you continue, RankTurn automatically starts analyzing your website. The AI analysis step shows a loading indicator while RankTurn reads your site and drafts a business profile — industry, description, target audience, suggested competitors, and more — so later steps come pre-filled instead of blank. RankTurn also tries to auto-detect your sitemap from the URL you provided.

This analysis usually takes up to a couple of minutes. A few outcomes are possible:

  • Success — the wizard advances automatically once the profile is ready.
  • Failure — if something goes wrong, you'll see a message with a Retry button. You can also use Back to return to the URL step and adjust your details.
  • Timeout — if the analysis is taking unusually long, the screen offers the same retry option.

Either way, there's a Continue manually link so you can skip the auto-fill and enter your business details by hand — useful for a brand-new site with little content for the AI to read.

Changing the URL

The website URL drives the analysis, so changing it later restarts that process. Because the URL can also influence your project's address, it's best to enter the correct site at this first step. If you do need to change it afterward, you can do so from Settings > Business.

Connect Google Search Console

This step is optional and skippable. Connecting Google Search Console lets RankTurn pull in real search data — the queries people use to find you, your current rankings, and click/impression metrics.

To connect:

  1. Click Connect Google Search Console.
  2. Sign in to your Google account and grant access.
  3. After authorizing, click Select property and choose the website (property) you want to track.

Once a property is selected, the step shows a "connected" confirmation. If you'd rather move on, use Skip — you can connect GSC later from Settings > Integrations. See Search Console for the full setup.

Profile, Competitors, Strategy, Writing & Image Style

These middle steps refine the profile the AI drafted for you. Everything here can be changed later from Settings > Business, and each screen reminds you of that.

Business overview (Step 4) — confirm or edit:

  • Project name (required)
  • Sitemap URL (optional)
  • Industry, Business description, Main product, and Target audience

Competitors (Step 5) — add the websites you compete with for search traffic. RankTurn can suggest competitors based on your URL and industry; add the ones that fit and remove the rest.

Strategy (Step 6) — describe how you want to approach content:

  • Content pillars — the recurring themes you want to cover.
  • Target pain points — the problems your audience is trying to solve.
  • Content goal — choose one of Brand awareness, Lead generation, Conversion, or Affiliate revenue (or leave it unset).
  • Strategy notes — free-form notes for the AI to keep in mind.

Writing style (Step 7) — define the voice your articles are written in. You can:

  • Type a style guide by hand.
  • Insert from template to start from a preset.
  • Analyze from your site — point RankTurn at a list of your existing articles and let it derive a style guide.
  • Generate with wizard — answer a few questions and have AI build a style guide for you.

The style guide field holds up to 5,000 characters.

Image style (Step 8) — pick the visual style for the images RankTurn generates. Styles are grouped into Scene and Abstract categories, each shown as a preview tile. Select the one that best matches your brand. The default is a flat-design style.

Keyword Generation

Step 9 runs automatically when you arrive. RankTurn first generates a set of keywords for your project (up to 10), then generates one article title for each keyword. The finished titles appear in a list so you can see what was created.

This step takes noticeably longer than the others. Generating keywords is involved work — RankTurn analyzes your site, comes up with candidate keywords, and looks up how often each one is searched — and can take a couple of minutes (occasionally longer). RankTurn waits for this to finish rather than giving up early, so please leave the tab open while it works.

If something genuinely goes wrong, you'll see a Retry button. RankTurn avoids duplicating work: if keywords or titles are already being created (for example, after you reload), it picks up where it left off instead of starting over. Once titles are ready, click Next to continue.

If your project already had articles before onboarding, this step recognizes them and skips straight to showing your existing titles.

Choose a Plan

This step appears only for projects without a paid plan. Paid projects skip it automatically and go straight to article generation.

You'll see the available plans (Text, Standard, and Pro) with their prices (shown in JPY for Japanese, USD otherwise). Pick the plan that fits, then:

  • New users are offered a short trial. Selecting a plan sends you to checkout to start it.
  • Returning users — anyone who has already used a trial, or who already pays for another project — go through the regular monthly subscription checkout instead.

After a successful checkout you're returned to the wizard, a confirmation appears, and you land on the article-generation step ready to continue.

First Article & Completion

First article (Step 11) lets you turn one of your generated titles into a complete article. Pick a title from the list, and RankTurn starts writing the full article while you move on — you don't have to wait on this screen. The first article includes a thumbnail and images within the article by default.

Writing a full article takes a few minutes. If an article is already being written for the project (or you already have a finished article), this step shows that status instead of the picker, and you simply click Next.

Completion (Step 12) confirms that setup is done. From here you can:

  • View articles — jump to your Articles list, where your first article finishes generating.
  • Go to integrations — connect a publishing platform.

Click the finish button to head to your dashboard. RankTurn then marks your onboarding as complete.

Resuming & Re-visiting

Onboarding is fully resumable:

  • Reload the page and the wizard reopens on the step you were last on, because your progress is saved after each step.
  • Visit /onboarding for your project at any time to return to the flow.
  • A Continue setup link in the sidebar (see below) takes you back to the wizard until onboarding is complete.

Steps you've finished stay marked as complete, and skipped steps (GSC, the first article) don't block you from finishing.

Setup Progress Widget

After onboarding, a Setup progress widget appears in your project's sidebar. It tracks five practical milestones to help you get full value from RankTurn, and disappears once all five are done:

MilestoneCompleted when
Add projectYour business profile has a website URL.
Business settingsYour profile has a content language and a business description.
Generate articleYou have at least one finished article.
Connect publishing platformYou've connected at least one platform.
Schedule article publicationYou have at least one article scheduled to publish.

The widget shows a progress bar and a checklist; each item links straight to the page where you can complete it. While onboarding is still unfinished, it also shows a Continue setup link back to the wizard.
